City Hikes in the Vienna Woods
and in the Viennese vineyards

Even in winter, Vienna offers a wide range of hiking opportunities within the city limits. The Vienna Woods and the Vienna vineyards are often covered in a white veil during the winter months. A special experience that Johann Nestroy and Franz Grillparzer would end with a warming visit to a Heuriger!

The diverse tour destinations includes Leopoldsberg, Kahlenberg, Hermannskogel, Am Himmel, Jubiläumswarte, Lainzer Tiergarten, Bisamberg, Sophienalpe. Vienna Alpine shows its guests the most beautiful places and most attractive routes.

City hikes are suitable for gaining an insight into the alpine landscape within a duration of two hours. They are accesible year-round and can be reached by public transport. A special highlight for our international guests!

Difficulty: beginner

Refreshments: snack station, Heuriger

Winter Hikes in the Vienna Alps

Rax, Schneeberg, Hohe Wand, Bucklige Welt, Semmering and Wechsel areas offer a wealth of half-day or full-day tours on secured winter hiking trails of all levels of all difficulty levels.

In just about 75 minutes of travel we reach the Vienna Alps with their famous mountaineering villages that have already fascinated Archduke Johann and Sigmund Freud.

Many destinations are also accessible by public transport.

Winter hikes are conducted as half-day (3 hours) or full-day tours (5 hours).

Half-Day Tours:

Duration: 3-4 hours

Walking distance: 5-6 kilometers

Elevation gain: 350-500 metres

Difficulty: beginner and intermediate

Travel: private car/bus, public transport

Refreshments: mountain huts and shelters

Snowshoe Tours

A special highlight in winter is a snowshoe hike. The gentle mountain shapes and the plateau landscapes of the Vienna Alps provide the ideal terrain, making a snowshoe hike a magical and unforgettable experience!

Snowshoeing is possible without any prior knowledge after a short introduction. Rental equipment is provided by Vienna Alpine for a fee.

Snowshoe Hikes are conducted as half-day tours.

Depending on the snow conditions, alternative tour destinations in neighboring Styria are possible!
